There are many restaurants, cafés and bars within easy reach of Le Cabanon. These are just a selection -- we're always happy to add more good recommendations!

LA MAISON D'AMOUR, EYMET

This pancake house (crêperie) is an excellent place for those who don't want a huge meal. The crêpes are very good and the fillings are unusual and quite substantial. It is on the square and you can sit and watch the world go by. Closed on Tuesdays. Tel: 05 53 22 34 64.

RISTORANTE PIZZERIA, EYMET

Another restaurant in the square in Eymet. The pizzas and pasta here are renowned, as is the tarte tatin. The energetic patron, Daniel, has a mobile kitchen on Eymet market on market days. Food can always be taken away. Tel: 05 53 23 90 05.

LES VIEILLES PIERRES, EYMET

The hotel is on the right as you enter Eymet from Le Cabanon, and serves excellent meals from set menus daily, except Sunday evenings. It would be a good idea to book for their multi-course Sunday lunch. Tel: 05 53 23 75 99.

LA STORIA, MIRAMONT

On the D933 on the Marmande side of Miramont, this large, unpretentious restaurant is always open (from 11.30-11pm daily) for pizzas, pasta and pancakes; it also does takeaways. Although not as atmospheric as Eymet, it does offer value for money. Tel: 05 53 89 28 67.

RESTAURANT DE LA GARE, ISSIGEAC

Excellent food and ambiance, whether sitting inside or outside. The Sunday brunches are renowned and very popular with the local English, and the weekday eat-your-fill buffet is also excellent. Tel: 05 53 58 77 88.

L'ETAPE GASCONNE, ALLEMANS DU DROPT

This is a charming village with a magnificent pigeonnier (dovecote). The restaurant is excellent value. Don't be put off by the entrance by the bar - the restaurant itself is quite attractive.

They have an extensive hors d'oeuvres table, where you help yourself; this is so good, that you may find this almost a meal in itself and only eat one more course. If you decide to go for the menu du jour, this is four courses, including wine, for about 13 Euros. Their Sunday lunch is also excellent. Tel: 05 53 20 23 55.

CRÊPERIE LOULOU, MIRAMONT

A good, unpretentious pancake establishment in the rue Philippeaux off the market square.

AUBERGE DES TREIZE CLOCHERS, MONTETON

A very popular restaurant where it's a good idea to book in advance or arrive early. You can dine outside on the terrace overlooking the magnificent valley, in the shadow of the ancient church. Prices are quite reasonable. Tel: 05 53 20 24 50.

LA GRAPPE D'OR, towards BERGERAC

This is on the left on the road from Eymet to Bergerac, on the hill on the outskirts of Bergerac. It is quite good.

LE MOULIN DE MALFOURAT, near MONBAZILLAC

As you leave Eymet on the Bergerac road, turn right in the direction of Monbazillac and the restaurant is up on the hill. The restaurant has superb views of Bergerac.

RESTAURANT AT THE CHATEAU DES VIGIERS, MONESTIER

This part of the golf and country club, and is reputed to be something special. Tel: 05 53 61 50 00.

CRÊPERIE LA GAVOTTE, RIBERAC

Although further afield, the attraction of this delightfully furnished establishment is that you can compose your own sweet and savoury crêpes from the detective style menu.  21 ter, Place du Général de Gaulle. Tel: 05 53 91 63 11.
